MovieBloc Launches “MovieBloc Global Film Festival Collection,” Featuring Gems from Sundance, Clermont-Ferrand, and Berlin
Lineup includes Little Berlin, narrated by two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz.
The MovieBloc Global Film Festival Collection is timed to coincide with the “Grand Slam” of early-year festivals, including Sundance, Clermont-Ferrand, and Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). By spotlighting past winners and standout selections, the program offers a panoramic view of each festival’s unique artistic identity. Beyond a simple streaming service, this initiative aims to bridge the gap for fans unable to attend in person, sharing the context, atmosphere, and cinematic pulse of the global festival scene.
◇ A Global Lens: From the Premier Short Film Festival to Major International Festivals
The collection features a handpicked selection of films that have graced the screens of the world’s most coveted festivals:
- Sundance Film Festival: Discovering new possibilities in independent cinema.
- Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival: Widely regarded as the “Cannes of Short Films.”
- Berlin International Film Festival: Celebrated for its blend of social insight and artistic excellence.
◇ Cinephile Masterpieces: From Sundance Sensations to Berlinale Breakouts
The lineup boasts several highly anticipated titles, including Hippopotami (Official Selection, 2025 Sundance Film Festival) and the Singaporean coming-of-age drama Children’s Day (Official Selection, 2025 Berlin International Film Festival).
A key highlight is Little Berlin, which captured the Fernand Raynaud Award (Best Comedy) at the 2022 Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. Narrated by two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz, this film has left a lasting impression on audiences with its unique narrative based on a true story.
The collection also revisits acclaimed works from South Korea’s domestic circuit, such as Sojourn to Shangri-la and Daughter and Son, which previously earned praise at the Seoul International Women’s Film Festival and the Busan International Short Film Festival. With additional entries from China, Poland, Portugal, and Chile, MovieBloc provides a diverse tapestry of perspectives that transcend borders.
“Only a handful of film enthusiasts have the opportunity to attend these major festivals in person,” said Dennis Kim, the lead curator of the event. “While we cannot fully replicate the physical experience, we want to create a space where audiences can feel closer to these festivals by exploring their curated selections online.”
He added, “The MovieBloc Global Film Festival Collection is not just a VOD service; it is a seasonal curation that provides the culture and context behind the films. Moving forward, we plan to institutionalize these seasonal programs—focusing on Cannes, Venice, and beyond—to ensure that the distance between global film festivals and their audiences continues to shrink.”
