LG Electronics Wins Eleven iF Design Awards
The 11 award-winning products will be showcased at CeBIT 2006, scheduled to be held in Hanover, Germany in March 2006.
President & CTO Hee-Gook Lee said LG Electronics has received the honor of winning iF design awards for five consecutive years since 2002.
This year’s record high number of award-winning products rides on the success of last year when LG Electronics saw nine of its products, including a 50-inch plasma HDTV with built in DVR that featured an embedded hard disk, win iF awards for outstanding design.
“LG Electronics has been recognized by the worldwide authoritative design association for its cutting edge products. Through this, our enhanced global design competitiveness will play a crucial role in upgrading the LG brand value,” Mr. Lee said. “Some industry experts predict LG Electronics will win another 11 Innovation Awards, including top Innovation Awards in plasma TVs, LCD TVs, TV refrigerators and other products, at CES 2006, to be held early next year.”
The 11 iF design award-winning products include a 50-inch plasma HDTV with built in DVR
(model: 50PB2DRA), a super-slim slide phone (model: LG5900), a slim DMB phone (model: SDMB4), a wall-mount projector (model: AN110), an LCD monitor (model: LX70), a home theater equipped with flat speakers (model: XHS-751TF), an AV center (model: XPION digital home PC), and a set-top HDD DVD recorder box (model: RT-4800).
The world’s first 50-inch plasma HDTV with built in DVR and designs, such as the equipped hard disk, will be unveiled early next year. Equipped with the real-time time-shift (so called the ‘time-machine’) function (model: 50PB2DRA), the 50-inch plasma HDTV embeds a 160GB hard disk with the capability to record 13 hours of HD broadcasts or 63 hours of analog broadcasts, while supporting nine-size memory cards with two slots.
The super-slim 14.9mm slider phone (model: LG5900), features an upscale design, including a black-enhanced neat case and a red touch pad as well as a 2-inch QVGA LCD monitor.
With an embedded MP3 chip to deliver sound quality and functions equivalent to those of an MP3 player, the handset is designed to support multitasking functions. Users can listen to music while sending/receiving mobile messages, surfing the Internet, playing games and taking pictures.
The iF Design Award, which was founded in 1954, aims to support superior product design and manage product development systems. Ranking among a few authoritative and prestigious industrial design awards, together with the U.S.
IDEA (Industrial Design Excellence Award), every year the iF Design Award offers an iF mark to award-winning products and showcases them at the CeBIT international IT fair in Hanover.
The iF Design Award uses ten screening criteria, such as practicality, safety, ergonomic consideration, originality, environment-friendly features, saving and recycling resources, visibility of usage, high-quality designs, and sensory and intellectual stimulus.
