Boeing Fourth-Quarter Net Income More Than Doubles; EPS Outlook Raised
Boeing's fourth-quarter net income more than doubled to $460 million, or 58 cents per share, up from $186 million, or 23 cents per share a year earlier. Revenue increased 7 percent to $14.2 billion from $13.3 billion while operating margin increased to 3.8 percent from 0.2 percent.
For 2005, Boeing's net profits grew 37 percent to $2.6 billion. Revenue rose to $54.8 billion and operating margin rose to 5.1 percent from 3.8 percent. Revenue in 2005 grew 5 percent despite labor strikes at Commercial Airplanes and the company뭩 launch business that reduced revenue by approximately $2.3 billion.
Boeing Chairman and CEO Jim McNerney said, "Our results and improved outlook reflect a strong commitment to growth, expanding margins and improving how we do business every day,"
Boeing Commercial Airplanes revenues rose 8 percent to $5.9 billion, with the operating margin improving to 5.6 percent from a negative 2.8 percent in the year-earlier quarter. Boeing Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) revenues rose 7 percent to $8.1 billion, with operating margins improving to 11.4 percent from 8.9 percent a year earlier.
Boeing increased its 2006 earnings per share forecast to between $3.25 and $3.45, up from $3.10 to $3.30, citing better operating performance and a lower-than-expected tax charge in the first quarter. Boeing reduced its full-year 2006 revenue outlook to $60 billion on what it said was a previously disclosed accounting change in its commercial airplane business.
Divulging its 2007 outlook for the first time, Boeing said it sees earnings increasing to between $4.10 and $4.30 a share on revenue of $63.5 billion to $64.5 billion.
