Outcomes of the 3rd Korea-Argentina high-level policy consultations
Minister Ban explained recent developments in inter-Korean relations and the ROK's position for a peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue, including the Six-Party Talks. Minister Jorge Taiana noted the ROK's efforts for the settlement of peace on the Korean Peninsula and expressed his willingness to continue his support and cooperation to this end.
The two ministers shared views on various pending issues between the two countries: promotion of trade and investment; cooperation in the fields of resources and agriculture; and expansion of cultural and arts exchanges, in efforts to build upon the "Comprehensive and Cooperative Relationship for Joint Prosperity in the 21st Century", which was agreed upon during President Roh Moo-hyun's official visit to Argentina in 2004. They also discussed ways to promote cooperation in the multilateral arena such as the UN, FEALAC, and joint study on the feasibility of a Korea-MERCOSUR trade agreement.
On March 14, Minister Ban paid courtesy calls on Vice President and President of Senate, Daniel Osvaldo Scioli, and President of the House of Representatives, Alberto Eduardo Balestrini, and asked for their continued interest in and support for the promotion of friendly relations between the two countries. He also delivered a speech entitled "Korea-Argentina Relations and the Future of the UN" at the Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI).
Minister Ban also had a meeting with ethnic Koreans living in Argentina, and an interview with La Nación in which he explained our government's efforts to strengthen cooperative ties with Argentina and other countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
