S-Oil donates 300 million won of school expenses to children of fallen firefighters
At the ceremony, S-Oil contributed a total of 300 million won to support living expenses and children’s educational expenses for 100 families of the firefighters who died on duty or retired due to on-duty injuries. Eighty-three children of those fallen or retired firefighters were offered 3 million won each as their school expenses, and 17 aged parents of the fallen fighters, who have no one to rely on, were given 3 million won each as their living expenses.
“Firefighters are hidden heroes of our society because they willingly sacrifice themselves to protect the lives and property of people from various disasters, without caring about their dangerous working conditions,” an official of S-Oil said at the ceremony. “We hope our donation could be of a little help in making firefighters’ living conditions more stable.”
On Jul. 28, S-Oil announced that it would launch the “Hero Firefighters Support Program” together with the National Emergency Management Agency, to award prizes to exemplary firefighters and provide financial support for the families of firefighters who died in the line of duty or retired because of serious injuries. Under this program, the refiner provided 30 million won for the bereaved family of a local fire sergeant who died in a car accident on Aug. 23 during a rescue operation, and 30 million won for that of a fire lieutenant who died on Oct. 5 in the collapse of the building in which he was putting out a fire.
Through the “Hero Firefighters Support Program,” S-Oil will continue to seek to stabilize firefighter families’ living conditions, by supporting child care and educational expenses for the families of firefighters who died while on duty or retired because of on-duty injuries and by offering consolation money to the bereaved families of such fallen firefighters. Furthermore, the refiner will try to boost the morale of firefighters, by awarding prizes to exemplary firefighters.
