Minister Ban receives medals from the governments of Hungary and Algeria

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ban Ki-moon will receive the Commemorative Medal of Hero of Freedom from the Government of Hungary and the Medal of National Order of Merit from the Government of Algeria through the Ambassador of Hungary and the Ambassador of Algeria, respectively, this afternoon (October 23) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Government of Algeria decided to present the Medal of National Order of Merit to Minister Ban for his dedicated efforts for the promotion of bilateral relations including the establishment of a strategic partnership between the ROK and Algeria and his contributions to enhancing the ROK's role in the international community by sharing the ROK's development experiences with other developing countries.

The Government of Hungary is to present the Commemorative Medal of Hero of Freedom to Minister Ban remembering the fact that while attending the Kyohyeon Elementary School in 1956, he read aloud a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General supporting the Hungarian Revolt as a student representative. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolt, and the Hungarian Government is presenting commemorative medals to prominent figures around the world who had supported the Hungarian Revolt.
