Around 200 participants will attend, comprising industry leaders from global service providers, consultancy firms, content providers, to government organizations, with participants coming from North America, Central and South America, Europe, as well as Asia.
Mr. Kitae Lee, President of Samsung Electronics’ Telecommunications Network Business, states, “Mobile WiMAX is not only a revolutionary technology, but will also make the internet truly ubiquitous for consumers by connecting all their communication devices. Through the Samsung Mobile WiMAX Summit, the technology’s vision and market potential can be explored and shared with all.”
According to the Yankee Group, the global Mobile WiMAX infrastructure market is forecasted to reach US$3.9 billion by 2010, while global Mobile WiMAX personal broadband subscribers are expected to 25 million by 2011. In the report, Yankee Group stated that annual device consumption is growing fast and will reach 32million units in 2011.
Regarding commercialization and applications strategies, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the results of Mobile WiMAX trials first-hand from leading service providers around the world, including Sprint, KDDI, Telecom Italia (TI), and Korea Telecom (KT). There will also be a roundtable session, where industry experts will discuss strategic issues including deployment and customer applications. The large number of service providers and marketing leaders participating in and leading the summit clearly demonstrates the market-oriented focus of this conference.
Leveraging its unique position as the manufacturer of Mobile WiMAX equipment used in the world’s first commercial Mobile WiMAX service, Samsung also plans to provide participants with an interactive experience of the technology. Participants will be provided with a PCMCIA card and the Samsung M8100 PDA device, the first commercially available Mobile WiMAX PDA device, allowing them to personally experience Mobile WiMAX. In addition, an exhibition at Shilla Hotel will display the full product line-up of Samsung’s Mobile WiMAX technology. Participants can also take the Samsung Mobile WiMAX bus for a demonstration of the technology’s capabilities while touring around Seoul at 60km/h.
While the annual Samsung 4G Forum adopts a mainly technology-centric approach to exploring 4G visions and strategies, the Samsung Mobile WiMAX Summit is designed to adopt a market-centric approach, focusing mainly on the marketing aspects of the technology including market potential and applications issues. Samsung plans to make the Summit an annual affair hosted in different countries every year, and through the combination of both events, help steer the telecommunications industry’s initiatives in next-generation technology.
