AMD to Sustain Market Share Growth Momentum in 4Q, Says DRAMeXchange

Taiwan--(뉴스와이어)--AMD has begun to gain a bigger market share in the desktop CPU business in recent years. According to market research firm DRAMeXchange, the market share in 1Q06 reached 27.6%. For high-end processors, AMD enjoyed strong growth, amid the launch of its more advanced AMD64 architecture. The company also made huge gains in the segment of low end processors, as it conducted effective pricing strategies and product promotions. Among the emerging markets, China was deemed as the most successful.

In addition to the success of AMD-powered processors used in desktops and servers, robust growth is also being witnessed in the notebook business as well. At the end of 3Q06, the market share of AMD in the notebook segment was roughly 15%.

Rival AMD recently aggressively pushes its CPU lineup that is not listed in its original roadmap in order to further strengthen its market share. It introduces its 31W power dissipation single-core Mobile Turion 63MK36 (2.0GHz/L2 Cache 512KB/HT 800MHz) CPU for the channel market in addition to the popular dual-core Mobile Turion. This strategy is indeed similar to Intel…s. When Intel first rolls out its Core Dual, it still keeps introducing Core Solo.

DRAMeXchange maintains the positive projection about AMD…s market share gain in 4Q06 as it is likely to grab the opportunity to boost its low-price 64bit Sempron shipment prior to Intel…s dual-core Celeron M launch in 1Q07. AMD fosters its partnership with NB vendors on the promotion of its low-price 64bit Sempron. When the consumer market is going to occupy by price-friendly CPUs during seasonal uptick and PC OEMs like Dell are aggressively pushing AMD platform, AMD is definitely the beneficiary.
