Taiwan--(뉴스와이어)--According to market research firm DRAMeXchange, global NB shipment grew by 17.8% QoQ at 19,142k units in 3Q, Shipment at Europe was as strong as expected with demand surfaced from late August. However, considering the low shipment base in 2Q and last year…s QoQ record, NB shipment in 3Q was just reflecting seasonal pattern. Furthermore, DRAMeXchange reveals QoQ NB shipment growth expected to reach 15.7% in 4Q at 22,108k units.

Stepping into the traditional hot season in 4Q, NB makers will not let go of this golden opportunity to boost their shipment. However, the observed components shortage should somehow weigh on their goals while second-tier players are unlikely to have their rebound.

Combined NB shipment from tier one NB makers grew by 20% QoQ in 3Q06

Combined NB shipment from tier one NB makers: Asustek Computer, Compal Computer, Inventec, Quanta Computer and Wistron grew by 20% QoQ in 3Q06 and beat the overall industry growth rate. Compal reports record-high quarterly shipment amount at over 3.9m units while Quanta also sees its shipment exceeded 5m units in the same period. Asustek reports an over 35% QoQ shipment leap at 1.5m units, thanks to the warming up demand from Europe market.

Second-tier NB vendors still exposed under the listless shipment trend

Second-tier NB vendors, however, are still exposed under the listless shipment trend while first-tier players are reporting record-high shipments. Some players including Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) and Uniwill Computer were still able to catch up with the cyclical trend but Mitac Technology Corporation (MTC) and Arima Computer both report quarterly revenues slip. Of which, MTC records its 3Q revenues reduced by one-third (32%) QoQ at NT$5.95b where Arima also sees its revenues dropped by 22% at NT$2.92b in the same period.
