Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media, and digital convergence technologies, today announced that Jay Y. Lee has been named Chief Customer Officer (CCO).

In his role as CCO, Mr. Lee, 38, will continue to act as an internal advocate for customers across the Samsung organization while working to form alliances externally with current and prospective customers to bring innovative technologies to market. Additionally, Mr. Lee will work closely with senior management and key business divisions on other important customer and stakeholder matters. His appointment is effective immediately.

Recent remarks made by Chairman Kun-Hee Lee during his New Year’s address to Samsung employees in Seoul and the appointment of Mr. Lee to this CCO role underscores the emphasis Samsung is placing on its customer relationships.

"The most important challenge is our commitment to our shareholders, customers and to the communities that have made Samsung's global success possible. We must fully strengthen our relationships with our business partners that provide the basis for our competitiveness over the years," commented Chairman Kun-Hee Lee during his New Year’s address. “If we successfully meet the challenges through our creative efforts and innovation, we will make an indelible mark at the top of today's business world.”

Mr. Lee will report directly to Mr. Jong-Yong Yun, Vice Chairman and CEO, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

“Mr. Lee is uniquely qualified to lead this customer-facing effort for Samsung,” said Vice Chairman Yun. “He brings established customer and partner relationships to this role combined with insight into the importance innovation has played in technology convergence at Samsung.”

"Samsung's leadership in digital technology has uniquely positioned the company during this time of rapid expansion of these technologies and the convergence taking place acress all product areas and in the customers' experience. In my new role, I will work to ensure that Samsung is highly responsive to the changing needs of our customers while promoting our commitment to creativity and innovation throughout the company.

And for the consumer market, we are focused on developing communications and entertainmnet solutions that can enrich people's lives. I will continue to support Samsung's response to these major industry trends," continued Mr. Lee.

Since 2001, Mr. Lee has developed strategic business opportunities focused on integrating new technologies into Samsung’s businesses. During his tenure as Vice President in the company’s Corporate Strategy Office, Mr. Lee played a pivotal role in promoting innovation and convergence in Samsung’s telecommunications, consumer electronics, and semiconductor divisions. His other responsibilities included implementing management reform designed to enhance shareholder value, and global strategic planning. Most recently, Mr. Lee was instrumental in forming S-LCD, a joint venture of Samsung and Sony Corporation dedicated to manufacturing TFT LCD panels for LCD TVs. This synergistic alliance has led to both companies becoming market leaders in the flat panel TV market, significantly improving their positions in the marketplace thanks to this partnership. As CCO, Mr. Lee will work to form similar industry alliances that further the development of innovative technologies.

Mr. Lee is an active participant in international forums, and is a member of the Trilateral Commission. He earned a bachelor’s degree in East Asian History from Seoul National University and an MBA from Keio University in Japan. He attended the doctoral program at the Harvard Business School. Mr. Lee resides in Seoul, Korea, with his wife, son and daughter. He is the grandson of B.C. Lee, the founder of Samsung, and the son of Kun-Hee Lee, Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics.
