Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The ninth round of negotiations for the conclusion of the Korea-Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will take place in Vancouver, Canada from January 29 to February 1.

In this round of talks, the two countries will continue to advance negotiations on tariff offers and reservations for each group, including goods, services (including communications and movement of labor), investment, labor and government procurement, in addition to continuing efforts to construct the framework of the consolidated draft text of the agreement.

In particular, in this round the two parties will conduct negotiations on tariff offers by dividing the goods section into industrial, agricultural, marine, and forest product groups. For services and investment, the two parties plan to continue discussions on the reservation lists for existing measures and future measures.

The Korean government is strongly committed to concluding the Korea-Canada FTA, which is an important part of the government's "multi-track" FTA policy being conducted under its "FTA Roadmap." According to the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), trade between Korea and Canada is predicted to increase by 80% in the mid-to-long term in the case that all tariff and non-tariff barriers between the two trading partners are eliminated through a Korea-Canada FTA.

In this upcoming round, the Korean delegation will be led by Mr. Choi Kyung-lim, Senior Coordinator for FTA Negotiations of the FTA Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and will consist of approximately 60 representatives from related ministries, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Canadian delegation will be led by Mr. Ian Burney, Director-General of the Bilateral and Regional Trade Policy Bureau of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and will consist of approximately 50 representatives.
