Taiwan--(뉴스와이어)--Amid the increased NB shipment growth in 4Q06, growth in chipset shipments also rose. ATi and NVIDIA respectively achieved shipments of 2,312K and 1,128K in 4Q06, according to Market research firm DRAMeXchange. Without taking Intel into account, they remain as the two key chipset suppliers. For Tier 2 makers VIA and SIS, the respective shipments also experienced an increase compared to the previous quarter, reaching 589K and 316K.

Intel…s platform currently enjoys a market share of 84.3%, where 96.6% are employed with their own chipsets. 945 chipsets are most commonly used now, while 915 chipsets are almost coming to EOL. By market share---ATi, SIS and VIA, are the three other chipset manufacturers that support the Intel platform.

The increasing AMD CPU shipments in 4Q06, provided the biggest boost to the growth of NVIDIA. In terms of the global NB shipments, its market share increased from 3.1% to 4.8%. For ATi, its supportable chipsets fell from 9.5% in 3Q06 to 8.5% in 4Q06. This was attributed to the ongoing restructuring phase in the aftermath of the merger between the two companies. However, what is more worrying is ATi…s future outlook after 2Q07. ¨As it may completely lose its business from Intel for its next generation chipsets, ATi may suffer a big blow to its overall sales.〃 said analyst.
