The 11th Korea-Vietnam Joint Economic Committee Meeting to be Held

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The 11th Korea-Vietnam Joint Economic Committee Meeting will be held on March 20, 2007, in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Korean side will be lead by Mr. Cho Yae-yul, the Deputy Minister for Trade, while the Vietnamese side will be lead by Mr. Cao Viet Sinh, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam.

* Representatives from various Korean ministries including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation, and the Korean Office of Supply as well representatives from the Vietnamese Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Posts and Telematics and the officials from the Vietnamese Customs Service also plan to attend this meeting.

The Korea-Vietnam Joint Economic Committee Meeting is a fixed meeting used to discuss issues related to mutual cooperation in the area of economics and trade. At this meeting, the two sides will thoroughly discuss ways to further develop economic collaboration between Korea and Vietnam as cooperation between the two countries has gained momentum through recent summits involving high ranking officials from the respective countries.

* The Korean delegation will specifically discuss the entry of Korean businesses in Vietnam’s telecommunications market, assisting Vietnam in building an atomic energy power plant, and the entry of Korean finance agencies. Korea will also seek solutions to the problems Korean businesses face when entering into the Vietnamese market such as barriers in entering Vietnam’s communications, atomic energy and finance market, and the issue of uncollected export revenue.

* With regards to strengthening economic ties, the two sides will discuss increasing existent and non-existent assistance and the entry of the Vietnamese industrial workforce following the licensing of foreign workers.

Both sides will discuss the possibility of a Korea-ASEAN FTA negotiation, cooperation regarding Vietnam’s accession to the WTO and the construction of a Korea-ASEAN center. Korea and Vietnam will also seek ways to closely cooperate with one another in areas of mutual interest in the regional and international arena.
