Outcomes of Minister's Visit to India(II)

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Song Min-soon has had meetings with Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee on April 3. Tuesday, during his visit to India for attending the 14th SAARC(South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation). He had consultations on major issues between ROK and India, along with matters of mutual interest such as the situation in South Asia.

During the meeting, Minister Song shared a common view with Prime Minister Singh that both nations make efforts to reach the CEPA(Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) within this year. In response, Prime Minister Singh explained that the Indian government will render support for POSCO's project to build a steel mill in the Orissa province, and also for the peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear crisis. Both sides agreed to arrange Prime Minister Singh‘s visit to Korea at the available time, and also to hold the ROK-India Foreign Ministers' Joint Commission within this year. Furthermore, they agreed to continue close cooperations with each other not only for the SAARC, but also for other international gatherings such as the EAS(East Asian Summit).

Also, Minister Song met with Richard Boucher, the U. S. Assistant Secretary for Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, who during his attendance to the SAARC as an observer paid a courtesy visit to Minister Song. They exchanged opinions on the current South Asian situation, and also ways to cooperate within the SAARC.

Meanwhile on the same day, Minister Song held a luncheon for the Koreans and the Korean businessmen living in New Delhi and delivered a word of encouragement for their local activities. During the meeting, he stressed the importance of triangular cooperation among corporations, the ROK government and the local authorities.
