Minister Attends the Opening Ceremony of the 14th SAARC Summit

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--As an observer, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Song Min-soon has attended the 14th SAARC(South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) Summit on April 3. Tuesday at 10 a.m. local time, which was held in New Delhi, India.

During the opening speech, Minister Song acknowledged the importance of the South Asian region which comprises of one fourth of the world population, and also the recent development of the SAARC. Furthermore, he declared the ROK government's will to strengthen cooperative ties with the SAARC in various sectors including economic development, information and communication technology, government innovation and fosterage of human resources.

Heads of state and foreign ministers from 8 member states - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, Maldives and Bhutan - attended this SAARC Summit. Minister Song, Japanese Foreign Minister Aso Taro, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, and U. S. Assistant Secretary for Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Richard Boucher all participated as observers.
