Minister Attends the 8th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting(Session 2,3)

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Song Min-soon attended the Second and Third Session of the 8th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting(FMM) that took place at the Hamburg City Hall, Germany on May 29, Tuesday.

The Second Session in the morning was on the global issues, while the Third Session held in the afternoon dealt with how to promote cooperation among the ASEM partners in the fields of economy, trade and culture.

Over the discussion on the global issues during the Second Session, Minister Song introduced the ROK government's counter-terrorism measures and our contrubutions to the international community through promoting capacity building for developing nations, serving as the chair country for the 2007-8 APEC Counter-Terrorism Task Force, and hosting the 4th Cyber-Terrorism Seminar of the ASEAN Regional Forum(ARF) in the coming October.

During the Third Session, the working lunch, Minister Song stated that the Korea-EU Free Trade Agreement, by pursuing a comprehensive and high-level FTA, will stand as a monumental precedent for the inter-regional integration between Asia and Europe. With the statement, he has also laid a groundwork for a successful outcome of the Korea-EU FTA.

Meanwhile, China reported her preparations for the 7th ASEM Summit which is to be held on October 24-25 next year in Beijing. The foreign ministers adopted the Chair Statement which summarizes the discussion, and with that the two-day session was closed. The participants also agreed to hold next 2009 ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Vietnam.
