Minister Attends the 8th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting(Session 1)

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Song Min-soon attended the 8th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Hamburg, Germany on May 28, Monday. Foreign ministers and delegations from 45 ASEM partners participated in the conference.

- The First Session, which was held in the form of a working dinner, was hosted by the German Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Recent developments in the Issues such as the North Korean nuclear issue and situations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran were discussed during this session.

Through his lead speech at the first session, Minister Song stressed that the peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue will help prevent the nuclear armst race in the Northeast Asian region, consolidate the non-proliferation system at the international level, and consequently bring a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula and the Northeast Asia as a whole. Moreover, he explained our efforts to continue pushing forward the Six-Party Talks process and implementing the February 13. Agreement, and mustered support from the ASEM partners.

The participating foreign ministers expressed their will to provide a steady support for the stability and reconstruction of Iraq and Afghanistan. They also stressed the need for Iran to carry out the non-proliferation obligations and the involved nations to exert endeavor to peacefully resolve Iran’s nuclear issue.
