Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The 11th ROK-ASEAN Dialogue will be held in Kuantan, Malaysia from July 5 to 6, 2007, attended by officials from the ROK, 10 ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat. Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shim Yoon-joe, head of the ROK delegation, and Permanent Secretary of Malaysia, Rastam Mohammed Isa, will co-chair the meeting.

The ROK-ASEAN Dialogue is a consultative body for discussions on ways to promote the ROK-ASEAN cooperation in various areas such as politics, economy and trade, culture, labor and tourism. Since the establishment of the Sectorial Dialogue Partnership in 1989, the two sides have held 10 meetings.

At the upcoming meeting, in particular, the ROK and the ASEAN are expected to have discussions on the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula, progress for the ROK-ASEAN Comprehensive Cooperation and Partnership and future cooperation, and establishment of the ROK-ASEAN center.

ASEAN is a significant economic and trade partner for the ROK, as the fifth largest partner for trade, the second largest construction market and the third largest investment destination, which also actively supports the ROK in the international community for its efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue in a peaceful manner and establish a peace regime in the region.
