WickyNet Corporation (CEO: Shin Dong-ho), a Web 2.0 solution developer in Korea, said it launched the open beta service of Linknow, a social networking service for businessmen and professionals.
Linknow service enables members to effectively and easily find professionals and build networks with peers by industry sectors, college alumni, regions, countries and companies by publicizing their profiles. Members of Linknow can connect each other when they agree to do so.
To help members build social networks more effectively, Linknow developed powerful ‘social networking search engine’ that can search up to third-step peers (peers of peers’ peers), the first of its kind in Korea. Most social networking services, including Cyworld in Korea and MySpace in the United States, allow members to link with first-step peers only, and they experience difficulty in finding peers they look for even though they make extensive navigations, surfing across first-step peers.
Unlike other social networking services, Linknow displays your relations with searched peers when you search them by business areas, countries, regions, attended colleges or organizations they belong to. If they maintain the chain of relations of third-step peers, it displays the diagram of linkage of peers like you->your peer->your peer’s peer->peer of your peer’s peer. So it allows you to easily build relations with persons you want via your first-step or second-step peers.
Starting on June 19, Linknow offered test service for 3 weeks involving more than 2,000 beta testers. The test service showed that about a half of members maintained relations within third-step chains. This means that about a half of the Korean people are relatively close each other, being peers of your peers’ peers. With these enormous assets of social networks, we are carrying out our daily life without being conscious of them.
In Linknow, social networks can be expanded exponentially when members invite many friends and colleagues. To help members invite colleagues more easily, Linknow developed directory linkage functions. It enables members to easily invite colleagues by uploading their directory using any programs of their choice among Outlook, Express, Webmail or Excel.
Linknow also features a function of searching by countries enabling members to conveniently connect with Koreans living in many countries around the world. With catalogued directory of alumni of more than 4,000 colleges and universities around the world, including the United States, china, Japan, Taiwan, Germany, France and Russia, as well as 500 colleges and universities in Korea, it helps members easily search and connect with any of alumni of these schools. It also allows members to easily find former colleague workers, connect with members at nearby offices by a single click, and to automatically apprise of other networked members when a member updates his or her profile after moving jobs.
Featuring functions of recommending and requesting for recommendation, members can recommend specialists in a variety of areas, and the recommendation will be added to your profile when you are recommended.
As it provides functions of profile banner and e-mail signature, those members who click your profile banner or e-mail signature can become your peers when you attach your profile banner to your blog or Website, or insert signature at the bottom of your e-mails.
“Linknow is a social networking service developed exploiting extraordinary principles of Web 2.0, ‘participation’, ‘share’, and ‘openness’. Users of Linknow can secure many peers and ‘share’ social networks more actively when they ‘open’ their profile and ‘participate’ as much as possible,” said Shin Dong-ho, CEO of WickyNet.
Linknow aims to increase the number of its members to 500,000 by the end of this year by aggressively attracting investments, recruiting specialized staff, and pushing public relations activities.
