Taiwan--(뉴스와이어)--According to a recent study from DRAMeXchange, the worse-than-expected sales of the new Santa Rosa platform painted an uncertain NB shipment outlook. However, in the ODM sector in June, driven by the strong sales of the older Napa Refresh models, the aggregated NB shipments jumped higher during the industry’s traditional seasonal cycles. DRAMeXchange says if the figures continue to increase in the coming months, the NB annual growth rate may hit 29%~30%.

With the shipment figures projected to be even better in 3Q07, some component suppliers already seem unable to keep up with the current demand. At the moment, a battery shortage is already seen, while the supply in panels and the NB housing has become tighter. Amid inadequate capacity allocations, the PCBs used in the Napa Refresh models are also facing an insufficient supply. For August, HDD manufacturers are forecasting a HDD capacity crunch, as well. Although the component shortages may negatively impact the NB shipments in 3Q07, growth should still remain strong.

The CPU price cuts by Intel in July should help improve the unexpected sluggish sales of the Santa Rosa platform. As the shipments of the Santa Rosa models go up, it should also present new business opportunities for relevant component makers.

In light of orders from Apple and brisk shipments by HP, Quanta’s NB shipments, which jumped above expectations the most, reached 2.88 million in June. On the other hand, Compal, the best performing manufacturer in June, reported shipments reaching 1.77 million.
