Outcomes of the FEALAC FMM III

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The Third Foreign Ministers' Meeting (FMM III) of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), which was held in Brasilia from August 22 to 23, 2007, adopted the Brasilia Declaration on the direction of future activities for FEALAC.

Minister for Trade, Kim Jong-hoon (chief delegate) and our delegation took on a leading role as a co-Chair with the other co-Chair Brazil. Member Countries expressed their deep interest in and active support for a proposal on managing an Info-House through the construction of the FEALAC portal site, an agenda which was initiated by Korea and included in the Brasilia Declaration as a result of our efforts.

In addition, the ROK will act as the next co-Chair for the Economy and Society Working Group, together with Ecuador, and announced that the meeting will be held in Seoul in October this year.

As part of our diplomatic efforts to resolve the hostage situation in Afghanistan, our delegation pursued the adoption of the Statement of the FMM III on the Hostage Situation in Afghanistan, which was unanimously adopted by the Member Countries.

Many Member Countries actively expressed their interest in and support for our efforts to resolve the hostage situation in Afghanistan through their statements.

Trade Minister Kim also held bilateral talks with chief delegates of Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador and China on the sidelines of the FEALAC FMM III, and asked for their support for our bid to host the International Exposition in Yeosu in 2012.
