WitsView:August Street Price Survey: 32” LCD TV reaches $813; 42” price higher than 40”

Taiwan--(뉴스와이어)--According to WitsView's latest street price survey, the retail price of the 26", 37" and 42"+ have started to rebound. The increases come on the heels of product promotions coming to an end. For the large-sized models, the inclusion of more high-end features has also provided the luxury of additional price increases. In the PDP segment, the price difference between the 42" and 50" has been relatively the same as the previous month. In the Monitor section, 4:3 models continue to rise, while the widescreen formats maintained a downward price trend.

In the mainstream LCD TV segment, the average price of the 32" in August reached $813, a MoM drop of 2.7%. In the key China market, prices stood at $671, an increase of 2.1% over July's $657. Despite the increase, it still marked the lowest priced region for the 32" LCD TV.

The 37" edged up by 0.6% MoM to $1,143, where the least expensive models were being sold in the North American market at $832. In the 40" size group, the 40" and 42" respectively entailed a price tag of $1,398 and $1,478. Since Mar07, this is the first time, in which the 42" is priced higher than the 40". As for the larger TV size group, the 46", 47", 52", and 57" reached respectively, $2,510, $2,167, $3,814, and $7,452. The premium-priced 65" model jumped by 6.2%, increasing from $12,857 to $16,350.

In the PDP segment, the 42" was retailed at roughly $1,562, an increase of 1.9% over the previous month. In the US market, prices have approached near the $1,000 level, standing at $1,073. For the low-end models, they have already tumbled to $755.

North America, an important market for the PDP TV, offers models at much lower prices than other regions. Take the 42" price for an example, North America→1.073, UK→1.738, Japan→1.073, China→1.499 and Taiwan→1.984. Meanwhile, the 50" PDP TV was up by 0.5% to $2,815, a slight sequential increase of 0.5%. However, in North America, they are available at $1,605, 57% of the global average. For the remaining sizes, the 55", 60" and 65" stood at $3,015, $6,422 and $8,827.

In the LCD Monitor segment, the 15" and 17" were priced respectively at $192 and $195, a mere $3 price gap. Amid the 2.2% increase of the 17" in July, prices climbed another 2.2% in August. This is the only size to experience a price increase for two consecutive months.

Meanwhile, the 19" inched up by $2 to $230. In the wide format category, different sizes have been experiencing different price changes. The 19"w remained flat at $195, while the 20.1"w was up slightly by 1% to $263. The 22"w edged up by 0.9% to $299.

In general, WitsView believes the prices increases in the FPD TV and LCD monitors is mainly attributed to seasonal fluctuations. By looking at the prices changes of the various sizes in June, July and August, only the 65" LCD TV and 17" LCD monitor experienced price upticks for 2 consecutive months. The increases can not be deemed as a price rebound for all FPD applications yet.

WitsView provides a monthly analysis of the LCD TV, LCD Monitor and PDP TV retail prices, which encompasses different sizes ranging from the high-end to low-end segment.
