ROK-Viet Nam Foreign Ministers’ Talks on the Sidelines of the APEC Ministerial Meeting

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Minister Song Min-soon had bilateral foreign ministers’ talks with the Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Gla Khiem on September 4, Tuesday from 17:45 to 18:15 on the sidelines of the APEC Ministerial Meeting.

During the discussion, the two ministers acknowledged that the ROK-Viet Nam relations have made an impressive development, for the ROK has become the largest investor in Viet Nam since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. They also expected that bilateral exchanges will increase with various celebrations for the 15th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year.

Minister Song explained that the ROK and Viet Nam have strengthened cooperative ties in areas of economy and trade, based on economically complementary systems. He also asked for the Vietnamese government’s steady support for the Korean corporations in Viet Nam. In return, Minister Khiem agreed to provide all necessary assistance for our firms to engage in business.

Minister Khiem assessed the Framework Arrangement between the ROK and Viet Nam which had been concluded this July, and expressed gratitude to the ROK government for supporting development projects in Viet Nam. In return, Minister Song explained our plans to continue providing assistance to Viet Nam, since the Southeast Asian nation is Korea’s major recipient of both grant and loan aid.

Minister Khiem stated that Viet Nam supports the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the peaceful reunification of Korea, and that the Vietnamese government will render support for the ROK to work on these tasks. In return, Minister Song showed his expectations for Viet Nam’s continuous cooperation.

Minister Song asked for Viet Nam’s support for the ROK’s bid to host the 2014 World Expo in Yeosu.
