ROK-China Ministerial Meeting on the sidelines of the APEC Ministerial Meeting

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Minister of Foreign Affairs Song Min-soon had bilateral talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on September 8, Saturday on the sidelines of the APEC Summit Meeting held in Sydney, Australia.

Minister Song explained that the inter-Korean summit in October will be conducive to the development of relations between South and North Korea, and will help move the Six-party process forward in order to expedite the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and promoting peace and security of Northeast Asia. Minister Yang wished success for the inter-Korean summit.

Minister Song and Minister Yang acknowledged the progress made at the Six-party process, and they agreed to continue working in close cooperation at the upcoming Six-party talks for the implementation of the next phase steps of the February 13 Agreement to take place at the earliest date. The next steps of the Feb. 13 Agreement include the confirmation and disablement of all existing nuclear weapons by North Korea and the provision of energy to the North.

Minister Song asked for China’s support for the Korea’s bid to host the 2012 World Expo in Yeosu, and Minister Yang gave his wishes for Korea to open the international event.
