Vice Minister's Meeting with Peruvian Undersecretary of Ministry of External Relations of Peru

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--On September 11, Vice Minister Cho Jung-pyo had a meeting with Undersecretary for Asia and the Pacific Basin Affairs of the Ministry of External Relations of Peru, Martha Chavarri, who is currently on her visit to Korea, and exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest for the promotion of friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries.

The two sides expressed their satisfaction that the friendly and cooperative ties between the ROK and Peru were reconfirmed at the ROK-Peru Summit on the sidelines of APEC in Australia on September 9, and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of energy and resources, ways to promote bilateral trade and investment including the feasibility of an ROK-Peru FTA, and cooperative measures in the fields of economy and technology.

Undersecretary Chavarri conveyed deep gratitude to the ROK government for sending emergency aid to Peru right after the earthquake in August, and invited President Roh Moo-hyun to pay a state visit to Peru.

Vice Minister Cho expressed our gratitude for Peru's decision to support Yeosu's bid to host the International Exposition in 2012, and explained that our Government plans to actively support Peru for its hosting of APEC in 2008, based on our own experience of hosting APEC in 2005.

They also agreed to continue bilateral cooperation in various areas including economy and trade, culture, science and the international arena.
