Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The 2007 Meeting of Heads of Korean Overseas Missions in Latin America and the Caribbean was held in Mexico City, Mexico on October 10, with the attendance of 17 heads of overseas missions in the region, presided over by Mr. Park Joon-woo, Deputy Minister for Planning and Management.

During the meeting, the heads of overseas missions had discussions on our foreign policies toward Latin America and the Caribbean, the promotion of trade and investment and ways to improve our cultural diplomacy and consular services. Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean have traditionally rendered their valuable support for our candidacy for international organizations and our bids to host international events, and provided important markets for our exports and investments. The heads of overseas missions took this opportunity to have in-depth discussions on ways to establish more effective and integrated foreign policies toward this "region of opportunity".

The heads of missions also discussed multi-dimensional and effective strategies for the ROK's bid to host the 2012 International Exposition in Yeosu and ways to focus our diplomatic efforts to this end.

Deputy Minister Park explained the outcomes, meaning and follow-up measures of the recent inter-Korean Summit, and asked for more active support of the heads of missions for the efforts to open up a new era of peace and co-prosperity as well as reconciliation and unification of the Korean Peninsula.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade holds separate meetings of heads of Korean overseas missions for each region, in addition to the Plenary Meeting of Heads of Korean Overseas Missions in the beginning of each year, to review the progress in implementing key diplomatic tasks and to collect opinions from heads of overseas missions on foreign policies toward each region.
