Outcomes of the Second Korea-China-Japan Senior Foreign Affairs Officials’ Consultation
During the consultation, the three delegations exchanged views on ways to promote cooperation among the three countries and had a wide range of discussions on major regional and international issues. They agreed that continuing the practice of dialogue at all levels including summits would promote mutual understanding and confidence along with pursuing interest of all parties.
To this end, the three delegations of Korea, China and Japan assessed the implementation of the projects that were agreed at the three-nation ministerial meetings so far. They also agreed to work in close cooperation for successful outcomes of the Korea-China-Japan Trilateral Summit and the Trilateral Committee that the three countries are to hold next month.
The three nations noted the successful outcomes of the recent South-North Korean Summit, and had constructive discussions on the North Korean nuclear issue and the Northeast Asian security dialogue. This consultation also served as an opportunity to deepen understanding on the three nations’ foreign policies and their respective positions on each agenda, by conducting in-depth discussions on global issues including situations in the Asia-Pacific · Middle East · Central Asia · Africa, energy security and climate change.
The three countries agreed to regularize the trilateral consultations by holding the Korea-China-Japan Ministerial Meeting and another Senior Foreign Affairs Officials’ Consultation in Japan next year. The Korea-China-Japan Trilateral Ministerial Meeting was held in Jeju Island in June 2007.
