Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Minister Song Min-soon paid a visit to Palestine on December 2. This is the first visit by a Korean Foreign Minister since the establishment of the Representative Office of the ROK in Ramallah, Palestine on October 2005.

During his courtesy call on Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, Minister Song explained that the Korean government has been providing assistance for the economic and social development of Palestine, and promised that Korea will actively participate at the upcoming Conference of Donor Nations to Palestine to be held on December 17 in Paris.

Prime Minister Fayyad expressed appreciation to the active support of the Korean government, and asked for Korea to share its experiences of economic development with Palestine. In particular, the Palestinian side welcomed our plan to provide Palestine with workforce and a group of brains for its economic development by establishing the Vocational Training Center in Jenin and Mas, the Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute.

During the Foreign Ministers’ Talks, Minister Song and Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki noted that the bilateral relations between Korea and Palestine has been strengthened more than ever, and discussed ways to further promote cooperative ties. Minister Song attended the commemorative ceremony of the establishment of the Korea-Palestine Friendship Association and delivered congratulatory remarks. Minister Song noted that following the establishment of official relations in 2005, there are now organizations for cooperation between the civil societies of Korea and Palestine. He stressed that both sides should exert efforts for further development of bilateral relations.

Minister Song’s visits to Israel and Palestine is expected to serve as an opportunity to seek Korea’s constructive role in settling peace in the Middle East since they were made at a time when the Middle East Peace Conference in Annapolis had just taken place.
