WitsView unveils Nov07 FHD street price survey:32” FHD TV Average price falls below USD 1,000; 40/42 ” prices higher than Oct07

Taiwan--(뉴스와이어)--Among the different LCD TVs being sold around the world, the picture resolution of the 47” and above are now mostly WUXGA (1920x1080, or FHD). For below 32” sizes, FHD models are still rare. Meanwhile, in the 32~46” segment, the amount of FHD and WXGA models (1366x760 or HD) was mixed. Thus, WitsView’s FHD street price survey is conducted by analyzing the 32~46” price changes. To further put the prices in perspective, they are also compared with the 42/50” PDP FHD/HD TVs. Based on WitsView's survey, various changes were seen in the different FHD LCD TV sizes. The 46”, along with the below 37”, trended downwards, while the 40/42” climbed upwards. The average FHD price of the 32” was USD 943, a notable decline over October’s USD 1027. The drop was mainly attributed to the rapid price declines in the Japan market. For example, Sharp’s AQUOS LC-32DS3 was sold at ¥182,000 in October. However, in November, it slipped sharply to¥146,790. Currently, the 32” FHD models are mostly available in the Japan, North America and China regions. Aside from the Sharp models, Hisense and LG also offer FHD 32” sets in the China market. Meanwhile, the average price of the 37” FHD reached USD 1,282, down by 1.8% MoM. A bigger price drop was seen for the 46”, down by 3.9% MoM. Separately, the 40” FHD rose by 3.9% MoM to USD 2.092, and the 42” was up by 1.4% to USD 1,596.

In general, FHD models are more expensive than their HD counterparts. However, the price gap varied between different market regions. For example, in Nov07, the global average of the 37” FHD model was roughly 20.4% higher than a 37” HD model. Region-wise, the ratio reached 44.7% in Taiwan, but in China it was only 3.1%. The 40” segment witnessed the highest FHD/HD price difference. In WitsView’s survey, aside from the Japan market, the remaining regions owned a price premium of 50%. WitsView believes FHD is definitely a key development focus of LCD TVs. Currently, the majority of the 47” and above sport FHD resolution. The 37~46” are also following the same trend. As for the 32”, with Sharp successfully developing FHD panels, such TV sets have started to hit product shelves, as well. However, their market penetration is still relatively low at the moment.

FHD sets accounted for nearly 65% of the global 46” LCD market. In the Japan market, it was nearly 100%, and in the North American and Europe regions, the market penetration rate exceeded 70%. However, in the China market, the ratio reached only 34%. As for the other FHD sizes, the global market penetration is summarized as follows: 37”→22%, 40” → 37%, 42” →35.6%.

Finally, in the PDP TV segment, the 42” FHD models were retailed at USD 1961 in Nov07, 31% higher than the USD 1497 of HD/SD sets. Although the 42” FHD PDP TV was USD 365 more expensive than the same sized LCD TV, it was slightly cheaper than the 40” LCD TV, which was priced at more than USD 2000. As for the 50” PDP TV, FHD models were available for USD 3,019, USD 600 more than the USD 2,402 HD models.
