Exchange of Congratulatory Messages for the 15th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between Korea and Vietnam

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--President Roh Moo-hyun and Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet exchanged congratulatory messages for December 22, the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his message to the Vietnamese President, President Roh expressed his hopes in for further development of the ‘Comprehensive Partnership’ between Korea and Vietnam. President Triet noted with great satisfaction the development of the ‘Comprehensive Partnership’ between the two countries, and was confident that the bilateral cooperation would be further promoted based on the 15 years of cooperation.

There have been various events this year to celebrate the 15th anniversary. In Korea, there were ‘Vietnam Week Event’ (May 21-24), ‘Vietnam Culture Week’ (November 12-15), and Reception in Celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Korea and Vietnam on December 20. In Vietnam, there were events such as ‘Korea Film Festival’ (May 31-June3), ‘Korea-Vietnam Economic Forum,’ ‘Korea-Vietnam Friendship Concert’ (July 3), ‘Seminar on History of Korea and Vietnam’ (August 20), and ‘Dynamic Korea in Hanoi’ (November 23-25). The Korean government will award former Prime Minister of Vietnam Phan Van Khai with the Order of Diplomatic Service Merit ‘Grand Gwanghwa Medal’ later this year, who has made tremendous contributions to the development of Korea-Vietnam relations during his term from 1997 to 2006.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992, there has been remarkable development in Korea-Vietnam bilateral relations. The volume of trade between the two countries has increased tenfold since 1992, and Korea has emerged as the largest investor to Vietnam this year. Korea and Vietnam have established a ‘Comprehensive Partnership’ in 2001 and have been promoting cooperative ties through exchanges of high-level officials.
