Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The Korea-U.S. Trade Meeting will be held from January 16 to 17 in Washington D.C. to discuss overall trade issues between Korea and the United States.

The Korea-U.S. Quarterly Trade Meetings were held from March 2001 as a means of preventing trade issues from escalating into trade conflicts. However, they were stopped after the start of the Korea-U.S. FTA negotiations in March 2006.

Rather than a resumption of the Quarterly Trade Meetings, this meeting is the result of an awareness on both sides for the need to discuss various trade issues.

At this Korea-U.S. Trade Meeting, Director-General Choi Jung-hyun of the Bilateral Trade Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will head the Korean delegation. Other members of his delegation include officials from related ministries such as the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, as well as the Korea Food and Drug Administration. On the U.S. side, Ms. Arrow Augerot, Deputy Assistant USTR Representative for Korea, will be the lead negotiator for the delegation composed of officials from the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of Agriculture.

The Korean side will request cooperation for a fair anti-dumping investigation of Korean companies, promotion for agricultural exports to the U.S., and strengthening measures for import cargo inspections.

The U.S. side is expected to initiate discussions on the implementation of the Law on Transboundary Movement of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs), imported food labeling standards, and motorcycle usage on expressways.
