Employment up 1.3% in December 2007

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Employment

Total employment in December stood at 23.257 million, registering a gain of 268,000, or 1.2 percent year-on-year. Seasonally adjusted employment went up 23,000 on-month to 23.539 million. The employment rate remained the same from the previous month at 59.1 percent.

Unemployment

Unemployment declined 6.1 percent, or 48,000, from a year earlier in December to stand at 736,000. The unemployment rate fell 0.2 percentage point to 3.1 percent during the same period.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the unemployment rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 3.1 percent from the previous month. The number of seasonally adjusted unemployment in December decreased 3,400, to 754,000.

The youth unemployment fell 0.6 percentage point to 7.3 percent from a year earlier.

Economic Participation & Economically Active Population

Total economic participation stood at 23.993 million, an increase of 220,000, or 0.9 percent. The economic participation rate stood at 61.0 percent, down 0.1 percent from a year earlier.

The number of economically inactive population in December recorded 15.349 million with an on-year increase of 217,000, or 1.4 percent.
