Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The 3rd Round of Korea-U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP) Consultation Meeting will be held in Washington D.C. from January 30 to 31. The Korean side will be headed by Director-General Kim Bong-hyun of the Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Bureau of the MOFAT, and the U.S. side by Assistant Secretary Richard C. Barth for Policy Development of the Homeland Security Department, respectively.

Based on the outcomes of previous two rounds of consultations held in Seoul in July and in November last year, the two sides will take this opportunity to have in-depth discussions on a draft text of a memorandum of understanding on Korea’s joining of the program. The two sides will also review measures that need to be taken by both Korea and the U.S. in order to include Korea in the program, and also discuss future plans for Korea’s joining of the VWP.

Korea and the U.S. have had consultation meetings on the VWP to discuss necessary measures that need to be taken for Korea to become a member of the program. The first and the second rounds were held in Seoul in July and November 2007, respectively.
