Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will sign an MOU on cooperation with the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) on February 11.

The focus of this MOU is on strengthening cooperation between the ROK and the ACS in the following four areas: trade development; sustainable tourism; transport; and prevention of natural disasters (the 4 focal areas of the ACS). Based on such cooperation, this MOU is aimed at promoting Korean companies' activities in the Caribbean region by providing assistance to underdeveloped countries in the Caribbean region and sharing development experiences in the fields of socio-economic infrastructure and information technology.

The ACS had proposed the conclusion of the aforementioned MOU to MOFAT in 2004, and MOFAT decided to conclude this MOU in the efforts to fill up the vacuum of diplomatic capacity resulting from the withdrawal of ROK overseas missions in the Caribbean region and to enhance cooperation with countries in the Caribbean region. This MOU will be signed between the representatives of the two sides on February 11 in Trinidad and Tobago, where the ACS Secretariat is located.

The ROK joined as an Observer at the 4th Ministerial Council Meeting of the ACS in 1998, and has been attending Ministerial Meetings and Summits of the ACS since then.
