Korean Delegation to Attend the African Union Summit

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The Korean government will send a delegation headed by ambassador Park Won-hwa to the 10th African Union (AU) Summit which will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from January 31 to February 2. The Korean delegation will attend the meeting as an observer.

During the upcoming summit meeting, discussions will be focused on the industrial development of Africa, theme of the Summit. Draft agenda includes the election of the Chairperson of the Union and other members of the Bureaus, and it is expected that the participants will discuss the reform of the United Nations Security Council.

The Korean delegation will discuss energy and resources cooperation with the new members of the Bureaus and some African countries. They will introduce the plans for the inaugural meeting of the Middle-East Arab Society (MEAS) to be established in Seoul this May, and also discuss the reform of the UN Security Council with parties concerned.

The sending of the Korean delegation to the AU Summit is expected to serve as an opportunity to testify Korea’s foreign policy that place great emphasis on Africa, as well as to promote substantial cooperation with African countries by securing energy and resources.
