Taiwan--(뉴스와이어)--A weak pricing environment remained in DRAM spot market last week (3/11-3/17), despite a downward price trend observed in the week prior. According to analysts of DRAMeXchange, the price of eTT 512Mb was flat (at US$0.83) while that of the higher-density 1Gb segment has dropped by 4.2% (to US$1.60). Especially, it is worth noting that the price of eTT 1Gb is approaching the lowest level of US$1.57 since November 27, 2008.

As in March, price of eTT 1Gb led the overall price by falling 9.1%, compared to the 5.7% drop seen in eTT 512Mb and the 5.4% drop in DDR2 667 1Gb. According to DRAMeXchange, more Taiwan DRAM makers are focusing more on their production of 1Gb parts than that of DDR2 512Mb; furthermore, due to the enhancement in production technology, a price decrease in the 1Gb segment can accelerate further.

The entire DRAM industry (except for backend houses) is bleeding in red alongside with the aggressive DRAM expansion. Take the price of DDR2 eTT 512Mb, for instance, its price has taken a nose-dive by 88.1% from US$7 in September 13, 2006 to the current US$0.83. While suppressing DRAM chip inventory level from several weeks to 3-5 days, most memory module makers strive to secure their territory and market share by offering more value-added services and balancing exposure between DRAM and NAND Flash.
