Outcome of the Luncheon for the GRULAC and Korean Companies in the Region

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Minister Yu Myung-hwan hosted a luncheon on March 13 for the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean Countries (GRULAC) and representatives from Korean companies in Latin America. The luncheon was attended by 15 missions of Latin America in Korea and 11 representatives from Korean companies in Latin America including those from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Daewoo International and Korea Resources Cooperation.

This luncheon was held to strengthen the triangle cooperation among the Korean government, the Latin American diplomatic corps in Korea and the Korean companies in Latin America. Minister Yu noted that the economic and trade ties between Korea and the Latin American countries have been promoted significantly, and expressed satisfaction with the expansion of bilateral exchanges to areas of culture and tourism. Moreover, Minister Yu hoped that Korea would strengthen the cooperation with Latin American countries in areas of energy and resources in a mutual beneficial way.

Minister Yu mentioned that President Lee Myung-bak would attend the APEC summit meeting which will be held in November 2008 in Peru, and taking that opportunity, President Lee will pay visits to Latin American countries. Minister Yu hoped that President Lee’s visits would yield substantial and tangible outcomes. Minister Yu also asked for a successful outcome at the Korea-Latin America Economic Cooperation Forum which will be held in September 2008 in Seoul.

Minister Yu stressed the importance of close networking between the Korean companies in Latin America and the Latin American diplomatic corps during this luncheon, and asked for the steadfast interest and support of the latter to this end.

H.E. Juan Jose Amado, Ambassador of Panama to Korea, expressed appreciation to the new administration of Korea for its support to Latin American countries, and asked the Korean side to work together for the promotion of substantial cooperation in a mutually beneficial way.
