Merck Confirms Its Commitment to Korea

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Merck in Korea, a Korean subsidiary of Merck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany, announced today that an executive board member of the parent company, Dr. Bernd Reckmann, is visiting Korea in his new capacity as the first chairman of the German Korean Business Association.

Dr. Reckmann, who is responsible for Merck’s global Chemicals business sector, plans meetings on May 12 with Investment Ombudsman, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and the Korea German Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Dr. Reckmann was President of Merck in Korea prior to his promotion to the Merck Executive Board in January 2007.

His visit reinforces Merck’s commitment to Korea and the Korean display industry. Merck, the world’s largest producer of liquid crystals, announced earlier this year that it will invest 14 billion Korean Won (EUR 11 million) to establish an Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Korea to improve Merck’s R&D and manufacturing capacities. The investment is intended to strengthen Merck’s position as market and technology leader for liquid crystals materials.

Merck in Korea was founded in 1989 and expanded its business by establishing Merck Advanced Technologies Ltd. (MAT) in 2002 to consolidate all its display activities and to better serve the Korean display industry.

”Close cooperation with our customers is a key to our successful business development here in Korea,” said Dr. Reckmann. “Merck remains committed to providing innovative solutions to ensure the future success of our customers and the Korean display industry.”

Merck’s cutting-edge technologies are not limited to liquid crystals but also include OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes), Organic Electronics, Structuring Solutions and Reactive Mesogen.
