Korea seeks to change parts of U.S. beef deal

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Korean Trade Minister Kim Jong-hoon said Thursday (June 12) he will meet U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab this week over a possible revision of an agreement that allows the resumption of U.S. beef imports, in Seoul's latest bid to soothe public anger over the deal.

The Korean government wants the U.S. exporters not to ship beef from cattle older than 30 months of age, though the April 18 deal allowed them to export most beef cuts regardless of the age of the cattle. Younger cows are believed to be less at risk from mad cow disease.

Trade Minister Kim will leave for the United States on Friday.
