Gov’t to create 2 tril. won fund to help local builders

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said Friday (July 4) that it will create a 2 trillion won ($1.9 billion) fund in cooperation with the private sector to help local builders win large-sized overseas construction orders.

Details such as how to form the fund and which constructors will benefit will be determined by the end of this year, the ministry added.

Korean construction companies are enjoying a boom in overseas orders this year on the back of growing demand from Middle Eastern countries which are flush with cash on skyrocketing oil prices.

In 2007, they secured a combined $40 billion worth of overseas orders, which are expected to grow to $45 billion this year, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs.

The expected the public-private fund to help local builders participate in large-sized overseas energy development and other infrastructure construction projects.
