3rd Citi-Kyunghee University NGO Internship Program Completed Successfully

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--All requirements over a two-month-period of ‘3rd Citi-Kyunghee NGO Internship Program,’ sponsored by Citibank(CEO Yung-ku Ha, www.citibank.co.kr) through Citi and organized by The Graduate School of NGO Studies(GSN), Kyung Hee University (Dean Dong-soo Lee, ngo.khu.ac.kr), aimed to foster young civic leaders who will take the lead in the development of Korea’s regional society and next-generation NGOs, was successfully completed, ending with a completion ceremony and assessment session held at the Grand Hall of Kyunghee University today.

‘3rd Citi-Kyunghee University NGO Internship Program’ was conducted at 72 major civic groups located in six areas nationwide (Seoul, Kyunggi, Choongcheong, Jeolla, Kyungsang, and Jeju Provinces) from December 29, 2008 to February 20, 2009 targeting 120 selected university sophomores and juniors and graduate school students nationwide, who wish to develop careers with local NGOs. Citibank Korea (CEO Yung-ku Ha) delivered a donation of 230 million won (USD 225,000) from Citi in December last year to Kyunghee University NGO Graduate School for the execution of the program.

During the program, advisory councils and staff of this program visited around 60 groups where interns were working and conducted interviews with persons in charge of the groups and the interns. Around 20 Citibank Korea employees also participated in the program, visiting NGO groups such as Korean Women’s Association United, Joyful Union, Korea Youth Union and Green Fund as volunteer mentors and encouraging interns.

Wha-yong Lee, vice dean of Kyunghee University NGO Graduate School, who was responsible for planning the 3rd Citi-Kyunghee University NGO Internship Program, mentioned in an assessment session held after the completion ceremony, “91% of the students were able to increase their understanding of the role of NGOs through Citi-Kyunghee University NGO Internship Program and 97% of the participating groups were satisfied with the students’ contributions to NGO projects and the generation of creative ideas. In particular, the program was very meaningful in that it provided opportunities to help both university students, who found it difficult to obtain jobs amid the global financial crisis, and NGOs, which had difficulty in finding staff. I hope that NGO internship programs will be conducted continuously so that many talented youth can further contribute to the development of regional society through activities at nonprofit groups,” Lee added.
