Memorandum of Understanding between Seoul and Beijing on Cooperation in the Field of Transport

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The two cities of Seoul and Beijing, which became sister cities in October, 1993, agree to further strengthen our cooperation in the field of transportation policy and transportation improvement. To that effect, the city of Seoul and the city of Beijing, hereinafter referred to as “both cities,”sign this Memorandum of Understanding to share information on transportation, including but not limited to strategies to improve transport, transport management policies, reinforcement of transport facilities and operation of transport systems, in order for the city of Beijing to better prepare the 2008 Olympics. The two cities, therefore, in the spirit of bilateral cooperation and mutual benefit, agree as follow:

1. For a successful hosting of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, both cities shall cooperate in the field of transportation, including but not limited to Seoul's sharing of information on its experience of hosting the 1988 Seoul Olympics and 2002 FIFA World Cup.

2. Both cities shall cooperate and share information and technology in the field of intellectual transport management system, including but not limited the transport card system and the automatic fare charging system.

3. Both cities shall establish a designated task force for cooperation between the two cities in the field of transportation, under the guidance of Seoul's Assistant Mayor for Transportation and Beijing's Municipal Committee of Communication, in the two cities of Seoul and Beijing, respectively.

4. Both cities shall promote exchange visits of officials specializing in transport management.

5. Both cities shall provide the necessary administrative support for private entities based in Seoul and Beijing to share technologies and finance their joint projects.

In order to promote practical cooperation, both cities agree to implement the following as soon as possible.

1.Both cities shall dispatch by the end of year 2005, delegations to the other city and hold a conference on cooperating in the field of transportation.

This Memorandum of Understanding is produced in English, signed by the Assistant Mayor for Transporatation of Seoul and Vice Mayor of Beijing and shall be officially effective upon the signing on this 29th Day of March, 2005.
