Samsung launches Universal Print Driver to help companies simplify the management of their printing environment
“Businesses of all sizes face huge challenges gaining control over their printing environment, and the time and costs associated with managing it,” said Mr. SungHwan Yo, Vice President of Digital Printing Division at Samsung Electronics.
“In today’s economic climate, there is a great opportunity for businesses to introduce solutions to make the most of their printer network, avoiding staff downtime and wasted resources that an uncontrolled printing environment creates.”
The driver enables users to print to any Samsung device without having to install a driver for every networked printer. It is also compatible with any printer or multi-function printer (MFP) that utilises PCL6 or PostScript languages, meaning a wide range of devices from different manufacturers can be accessed on the single driver. With the Universal Print Driver’s intelligent discovery functionality, compatible devices on the network can be searched for automatically, as well as added manually; reducing the time required to install and maintain devices on the network and associated costs.
Samsung Universal Print Driver’s intuitive interface ensures that users get a consistent experience, regardless of the model or brand of printer or MFP they are using, making the task easier and less time consuming. This helps businesses reduce printing costs and improve employee productivity. With Samsung Universal Print Driver, users can create lists of their most frequently used printers and check their status at a glance, saving time by only sending documents to printers that are currently available.
By providing users with a consistent printing experience, the Samsung Universal Print Driver reduces calls to the IT helpdesk. This enables organisations to conserve IT resources and manage the costs associated with ongoing support of the printing environment. The driver also has a link to order new Samsung supplies; if a device is running low on toner, for example, it can be purchased quickly and easily, reducing printer downtime and improving user productivity.
Zac Butcher, Director Digital Peripherals Consulting Service Europe at InfoTrends commented: “At InfoTrends, we consider the development of a universal printer driver an important step for all vendors wishing to effectively address enterprise customers. Offering a universal driver demonstrates a genuine understanding of the needs and challenges faced by IT departments managing a multiple driver environment. Universal printer drivers can deliver genuine cost savings through improvements in IT printer management processes, a reduced need for help desk support and efficiency benefits for the user.”
The Samsung Universal Print Driver can also help businesses to control their costs by linking with Samsung’s SyncThru™ Web Service solution. This service enables IT managers to remotely configure and manage their entire fleet of network devices.
To further increase user productivity, Samsung also offers AnyWeb Print, a free application that enables simple printing of web pages. More often than not, printing information from the Internet results in wasted paper and toner, due to problems with random frames being printed on extra pages, cut-off information and having to print multiple web pages. Samsung’s AnyWeb Print enables users to capture exactly the information they want – and only what they want – from the screen, reducing not only waste, but also time and energy taken to print from the Internet.
