Citibank Korea Inc. and Korea Institute of Finance Held the Award Ceremony for the 2nd Citi-KIF Public Contest for Excellent Theses on Finance
The event was open to all colleges and graduate level in the nation and there were more than 215 pieces of finance related book reviews and theses submitted to compete in the public contest. 122 contenders were primarily awarded with scholarship given to the 72 undergraduate winners and for the 50 graduate student winners.
With attendance of CEO Yung Ku Ha from Citibank Korea Inc., Tae Joon Kim, President of Korea Institute of Finance, and the selection committee, the 177 team winners were awarded and given prize money at the award ceremony.
100 contenders were primarily awarded with scholarship for 2 million KRW(Approximately USD 2,000) each given to the 72 undergraduate winners and 3.5 million KRW (Approximately USD 3,500)each for the 50 graduate student winners.
The Citi-KIF project to foster the next generation finance talents has been implemented since last year. It aims to foster the next generation talents who will make a contribution to enhance competitiveness of domestic financial institutions in the domestic as well as overseas markets, and develop a sustainable path for nurturing financial experts. The event was hosted and financed by Korea Institute of Finance and Citi Foundation respectively and Financial Supervisory Service participated in the event as a sponsor.
At the congratulatory speech, Yung Ku Ha, CEO of Citibank Korea Inc., said, “We want to see many excellent talents like you come to join the finance industry that can be said as the next generation growth engine for the Korean economy and highly contribute to the development of the domestic finance industry.”
Tae Joon Kim, President of Korea Institute of Finance, said, “Absence of financial professional in Korea is a huge task that Korean financial industry has to overcome, and I hope all of you would become the foundation for development in financial industry.”
The guest speaker, Chang Yong Rlee, Vice Chairman of The Financial Services Commission, gave a speech on the theme, “Instruction of process to the global finance crisis” at the ceremony. There were also sessions for mentoring program as well as the time for real field experience stories from the industry’s senior colleagues arranged at the ceremonial dinner with the employees of Citibank Korea Inc. and the staff from Financial Supervisory Service.
The mentoring program, consisted of the experts from Citibank Korea and Financial Supervisory Service, received a high expectation that would give a substantial help for the students who wanted to make their dreams of becoming finance experts come true, and thus KIF plans to further expand and develop the program.
