LG Chemical Secures No.1 ranking for 2 Consecutive Months in Large-area TFT-LCD Polarizer Market

However, as panel industry began to recover from first-quarter 2009, Korea-based polarizer makers had rapidly grew their market share and 2 Korea-based polarizer makers now lead the global polarizer market.
TFT-LCD polarizer market is considered to be the largest market as it comprises 95% of the total polarizer market. By application, LCD TV polarizer market recorded US$1 billion for the first-quarter 2009 to comprise 52% of the total large-area TFT-LCD polarizer market. In terms of area basis, LCD TV polarizer market comprises 57% of the total large-area TFT-LCD polarizer market in the first-quarter 2009.
LG Chemical shows strength in TV polarizer market as it secures 30% market share in area-based polarizer market for the first-quarter 2009 to be ranked in No.1 position followed by Nitto Denko at No.2 with 25% market share and Sumitomo Chemical at No.3 with 25% market share. These three companies’ combined market shares reach 80% of the total TV polarizer market.
Also for the Monitor-use polarizer market, LG Chemical led the industry with outright No.1 ranking at 36% market share. Nitto Denko and Korea-based ACE Digitech follow with 19% market share each. ACE Digitech is notable because the company is rapidly increasing its market share through supplying 60% of Samsung Electronics’ demands and 93% of Hanstar’s demands. For NotePC-use polarizer market, Sumitomo and Nitto Denko comprise over 60% of total market followed by ACE Digitech at No.3 ranking with 16% share.
