CopperGate Joins HomeGrid Forum's Board of Directors

CopperGate is one of the leading proponents of G.hn and is active in the G.hn work group that helped ratify the foundation standard in December 2008. Highlights / Key Facts:

- G.hn is the working name for the ITU-T recommendation G.9960. This new home networking standard is designed to enable the connected home. It is the only proposed home networking standard proposing a unified solution for delivering Internet Protocol (IP) traffic across AC powerlines, coax cables and phone lines. The new standard is the only one proposing performance improvements up to three times the existing standards available today.

- G.hn will enable consumer electronic devices such as TVs, set-top boxes, video download equipment, media storage solutions and gaming devices to connect with personal computers and home networking equipment such as routers, wireless access points, Internet gateways, Optical Terminal Networks (ONTs) and iNIDs.

- Together with the DLNA, G.hn will be able to finally enable consumer devices and computing devices to physically communicate together in a seamless fashion.

- The purpose of HomeGrid Forum is to work within ITU G.hn to promote the next-generation of home networking using in-home wiring (coaxial cable, phone line and powerline); to create and maintain a compliance program that enables an ecosystem of interoperable products based on the ITU-T G.hn specification; and to encourage and promote the adoption and widespread utilization of the HomeGrid Brand.
