Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Samsung announced today that it has received an unprecedented eight International Design Excellence Awards for 2009, including Gold awards for the 7000 Series LED HDTV, BD-P4600 Blu-ray Disc Player, and BTS1 Dual-Cooking Oven. The awards were announced today by BusinessWeek magazine and the Industrial Designers Society of America.

The IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards) program is the premier international competition honoring design excellence in products, eco-design, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts. The eight awards won by Samsung mark the largest single-year total in the company’s history and bring Samsung’s six-year total to an industry-leading 23 awards, keeping the company in first place among IDEA winners in the corporate category over the last six years.

“We are honored that the top designers in the world have recognized Samsung’s ongoing efforts to incorporate quality design into consumer products, delivering useful features, energy efficiency, environmental awareness and beautiful devices,” said Boo Keun Yoon, Chief Design Offer and the Head of Visual Display Division at Samsung Electronics. “From thin LED HDTVs to versatile ovens, fashionable MP3 players, Blu-ray players that perform as good as they look and notebook computers made for the human touch, Samsung is leading the market with creative consumer products.”

In addition to the three Gold awards, Samsung received two Silver awards, three Bronze awards and placed two finalists, demonstrating design expertise across a wide range of consumer products.

Gold IDEA Winners

7000 Series LED HDTV: Samsung’s LED televisions sets a new paradigm not only for the company but the HDTV industry as a whole, by delivering an ultra-slim and ultra-sleek designed HDTV that can be hung on the wall like a painting. The LED design produces an exceptional TV viewing experience with deeper blacks and dramatically improved contrast while only using 40% less power than a conventional LCD TV.

“The Samsung [7000 Series LED HDTV] is a beautiful, new interpretation of the TV as a slim and elegant frame,” said Stefanie Kubanek, associate partner at Pentagram Design and one of 20 world-renowned design experts comprising the IDEA jury. “An innovative and environmentally friendly injection molding technique allows for more than one color, and the result is a notion of glass with a wonderful play of transparency, color and light. This product will influence the future of entertainment products.”

BD-P4600 Blu-ray Disc Player: This Blu-ray player builds on the slim design of the LED televisions and extends the deep translucent liquid crystal bezel signature to a new product category. It features BD-Live and Internet access, delivering Netflix movies, Pandora music as well as pictures, music and video from a local computer over a wireless 802.11n connection.

“The Samsung [BD-P4600] player is a beautiful design solution which combines the precision of technological value and innovative manufacturing processes with a high level of sophistication and elegance. It's a desirable object that compels you - not just to look, but to touch,” said Kubanek.

BTS1 Dual-Cooking Oven: This novel oven features an adjustable cooking space that provides a range of cooking options in a compact, energy efficient design. The oven can accommodate one large item, such as a roast, or can be divided into two individually controlled compartments. This allows people to cook two items at different temperatures for different amounts of time, or to save energy by just using half the space to cook one smaller item. This oven also reduces the time and energy needed to clean the oven with a new steam-cleaning system.

Silver IDEA Winners

P2370 LCD Monitor: This very slim LCD Monitor delivers a class-leading translucent and seamless design with rounded edges and a transparent stand that gives the illusion that the screen is floating in air. The bezel of this monitor is manufactured without Hg & Volatile Organic Compounds, to ensure that the product is environmentally friendly.

Stamp Printer: This fun and versatile hand-held printer makes it easy to quickly create stamps, which can be used for everything from office labeling to childhood education while occupying a small amount of space on a desktop.

Bronze IDEA Winners

YP-S2 MP3 Player: The Shining Pebble MP3 Player YP-S2 simplifies playing music with a fashionable, compact and intuitive design. The MP3 player eliminates the LCD screen to create a pebble-shaped product that can be used by all ages, or even visually impaired people. The unique shape makes it possible to stop, start or skip songs while the player is in a bag or pocket, and the necklace-like earphones allow the player to be worn as a pendant.

Samsung Go(tm) (N310) Netbook Computer: The Samsung Go invites touch with a soft bag/wallet style exterior covering a compact 10.1 inch LED backlit display. Designed for comfort and portability, it features a pebble-style keyboard, edge-to-edge glass, Intel Atom processor and a full suite of connectivity options.

Social Campaign Phone ? Live: This smart phone makes it easy to connect with social responsibility campaigns, contribute to users’ favorite causes, and generate awareness for those causes by featuring them on special back cabinet plates. As the world’s first “social campaign smart phone,” this phone can be customized to support the Amazon jungles with a special Green cover plate and leaf design, global warming with a blue polar bear design, or call attention to the plight of hungry children in Africa with an orange plate and design.
