Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Citi announced yesterday the appointment of Jonathan Larsen as Head of Consumer Banking and Global Cards for Asia Pacific.

In this role, Larsen will be responsible for all of Citi‘s regional consumer products and customer segments. He will also have joint oversight of Citi’s Local Commercial Banking covering the small and medium enterprises in the Asia Pacific with Farhan Faruqui, the Asia Pacific Head of Global Banking. Reporting to Citi‘s joint-CEOs for Asia Pacific, Shirish Apte and Stephen Bird, Larsen will be part of Citi’s Asia Pacific Executive Committee and will be based in Hong Kong.

Larsen was previously Country Head and Citi Country Officer for Singapore and CEO of Citibank Singapore Limited. His successor in Singapore will be announced shortly.

Citibank is the Asia Pacific‘s pre-eminent retail bank and credit card issuer with 32 million customer accounts and over $8 billion in revenues in 2008. Larsen joined Citi in 1998 and has held various senior management roles in Asia Pacific. In 2005, he was appointed Country Business Manager (CBM) for Citi‘s consumer banking business in Singapore, and was responsible for significantly expanding Citi’s distribution through its partnership with Singapore Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Ltd (SMRT) and branch expansion across the island. He directed the expansion of Citi's presence in Singapore from 5 customer touchpoints in 2005 to over 850 today.

In 2007, Larsen took on additional responsibilities as Head of South East Asia, overseeing the consumer banking business in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Guam, Singapore and Thailand. Prior to his role as CBM and CEO of Citibank Singapore, Larsen was Head of Retail Banking for Citibank in Asia Pacific, overseeing the development of wealth management for affluent customers under the Citigold Wealth Management Banking brand and broadening Citi‘s reach into the mass market. Concurrently, Larsen was also Head of Business Development for the consumer business in Asia Pacific, and led a number of M&A transactions to expand Citi’s business in Korea, China and Japan.

Before joining Citi, Larsen was a Principal in the Financial Services Group of management consultancy firm Booz, Allen & Hamilton advising major financial institutions across Asia, Europe and the United States. He began his career at the Insurance and Banking operations of the National Mutual Group in Australia and New Zealand (now part of AXA). Larsen holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours (First Class) from the University of Melbourne.
