Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Samsung Electronics, a Prestige Partner of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games, provided the people of Guangzhou with a special high-tech gift today – the Samsung Digital Fountain. Located in Tianhe Square and presented one day after the one-year countdown for the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, the Samsung Digital Fountain features the world’s leading touch technology.

Distinguished guests from the government, the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC), the media and Samsung attended the event to celebrate the completion of the fountain, which was specially built by Samsung as a gift to the people of Guangzhou to commemorate the upcoming Asian Games. The combination of advanced technologies and unique style will no doubt be another landmark for the dynamic “City of Goats.”

The Digital Fountain, measuring 9m x 6m (L x W), enables interaction with visitors through a screen that can show any text or picture input on the touch screen. Water streams spray in various shapes when guests activate the fountain by using the touch screen. These water streams then transform into a variety of sophisticated patterns and text in bright colors with dazzling lighting and thrilling music.

As part of the ceremony, Samsung also unveiled its composite logo for Guangzhou 2010. Designed by Alan Chan, a renowned Chinese designer in Hong Kong, the composite logo will serve as Samsung’s look and feel for Guangzhou 2010 and will be applied to all Samsung commercials, ads, clothing, publications and signage for the Asian Games.

“The main element is a five-petaled flower added to the emblem of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games. The blossoming flower highlights the charm of Guangzhou, which is nicknamed the ‘Flower City,’ and the five colorful petals indicate the diverse exchange of culture and ideas that is taking place throughout Asia,” said designer Alan Chan. “The big challenge with the design was finding how to combine Samsung, a leading international brand, with Guangzhou, a city with thousands of years of history. Hosting the Asian Games here will reflect the bright future of this historic city, like a dynamic, stylish flower unfolding to the world. Similarly, Samsung’s amazing products and innovative technologies bring color to life – just like an open flower.”

Samsung first began its support of the Asian Games as a local sponsor during the 10th Asian Games held in Seoul in 1986 and continued as a local sponsor for the 12th Asian Games held in Hiroshima in 1994. In 1998, Samsung became an official partner of the Bangkok Asian Games and was a multicategory sponsor at the Busan 2002 and Doha 2006 Asian Games. As the only global company sponsoring the event, Samsung’s sponsorship categories for Guangzhou 2010 will include audiovisual, home appliances, mobile telecommunications and digital cameras.

“Building on the success of our worldwide sponsorship of the Olympic Games and Beijing 2008 in particular, we are honored to be a Prestige Partner of the Asian Games,” said Gyehyun Kwon, Head of Worldwide Sports Marketing at Samsung. “Samsung is committed to China and thrilled to contribute to the success of Guangzhou 2010 with our innovative technologies and products, while bringing happiness to the people of Guangzhou.”

Creation of the Samsung Digital Fountain and composite logo for the 16th Asian Games is just the beginning of Samsung’s support for Guangzhou 2010. More will unfold in 2010.

Alan Chan, born in 1950, was named “Designer of the Year” in his hometown of Hong Kong. He has won more than 400 local and international awards in New York, London and Tokyo among other places. His company was selected by Graphis Press, known as “the Bible of Design,” as one of the Ten Best design firms in the world for 1996, the only Chinese firm to earn this distinction. In 1997, his posters and watch designs were showcased in the Permanent Collection of Architecture and Design at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Alan Chan has a deep love for traditional Chinese culture. Pride for his Chinese heritage has allowed him to better fuse eastern and western cultures in his design ideas. His successful combination of western aesthetics and eastern culture gives his work traditional charm and stylish elegance. He is recognized around the world for design features that combine “eastern sentiment, western flavor.” Alan Chan also has strong commitment to sports, which was featured prominently when he designed posters for Beijing in 2002 during its successful bid for the Olympic Games in 2008.
