2010 Large-area TFT-LCD Panel Demand Expected to Increase 12% Y-o-Y

BUNDANG--(뉴스와이어)--Displaybank, a global authority in market research and consulting for the display and solar industries, today announced that 2010 Large-area TFT-LCD panel demand is expected to increase 12% Y/Y. Although Monitor panel is expected to show low 3% growth rate as LCD monitor industry enters maturity but NotePC panel is expected to show 19% growth due to high demand of Mini NotePC and increasing Desktop replacement. TV panel is also expected to show 19% growth in 2010 due to the growth in emerging market as well as Digital TV transfer that overall large-area panel demand is expected to increase 12% Y/Y and 19% Y/Y in area basis.

Makers that are planning to newly add lines are LG Display, CMO, IPS Alpha and BOE that all three makers, except BOE’s 6G line, are planning 8G line. Considering stabilized yield and ramp-up speed, lines that will affect next year’s capacity will be 8 lines began operating in 2009 from 6 makers. These 8 new lines are expected to increase actual supply capacity (capacity reflecting actual production considering yield) by 22% Y/Y but second-tier makers would most likely to adjust utilization in order to secure yield such that panel price is expected to hit the bottom during first-quarter of 2010 and maintain tight supply and demand situation until third-quarter of 2010, according to Displaybank’s senior analyst, Ricky Park. Park added “the creation of bottom pricing in early 2010 may be shortened or delayed depends on year-end peak season sales status from North America and Europe.”

Andy Yu, Vice President in Display Research Group at Displaybank notes “panel makers with competing edge to be able to respond to customers’ needs such as high resolution products, panels with LED backlighting unit (BLU), 3D panel and Touch-enabled panel and makers that can secure captive customer with high cost competitiveness will be able to expand their market share.”
